Like many, I’ve long thought about opening an Etsy shop. Unlike most of you, I suspect I’ve been spazzing about it for almost a year. As a long-time Etsy shopper, I was elated when they opened it up to vintage items!
I’ve probably read The Storque and Etsy’s Handbook every two months. I’ve talked with other women who have Etsy shops. I’ve done my research on shipping, shop policies and customer care.
And Lord knows I have enough merchandise.
I created Vintage Rescue Squad (http://vintagerescue.typepad.com) four years ago and began selling my vintage home and garden finds at a local flea market. Nearly three years ago I opened a booth in an antique mall. I’ve twice moved to a new location, and now have two booths in the same mall.
VRS had traditionally specialized in cottage/shabby chic/old lady furniture and small items, namely from the 30s and 40s. But once I realized collectors, artists and enthusiasts were jonesing for ephemera and assorted other vintage junque, I knew I’d found a new focus!
I shop mainly at estate sales, hitting on average five a week. I also love flea markets and antique fairs, and love to go out of state looking for more merchandise. Hunting, digging and “rescuing” are my favorite activities.
I find a lot of ephemera, bling, books, old photos, skeleton keys, and buttons, so started buying with the intention of opening what I’ve come to refer to as my “alleged Etsy shop.”
With 2 armoires overflowing, it’s TIME.
Follow my journey here on Indiepreneur as I spazz out even further, as I turn an alleged shop into a real shop!
XOX,
Sue
