How Do You Shop Indie?

June 20, 2008 by Lovely

We believe that selling AND shopping Indie puts the charm back into life. We want to encourage it in every way we can.

With the growth of Indiepreneur.org, we hope to build an advertising budget to create PSA’s advocating the Indie way of life.  With that goal in mind, we would like to ask you, dear readers …

HOW DO YOU SHOP INDIE? WHY do you shop Indie?

Farmers’ markets, Mom and pop restaurants, Crafters and artists, Antique malls, Online boutiques, Indie farms, Handmade clothing and linens, Tiny bakeries … where do you shop Indie?

I shop indie in antique malls, buying from local artists, at our farmers market, shopping at our little local shops and boutiques owned by independents. Sometimes I buy online from an artist’s blog or etsy.

I’m an avid Etsy shopper, but I also try to shop from local artists & designers whenever possible. I’m a founding member of the New Orleans Craft Mafia, so I try to support my fellow mafia members and I try to check out local designers and write about them in both a local monthly magazine and on my blog. Shopping local and handmade is so much more sustainable in the long run than buying from corporate big-box retailers, plus I love the stories behind each piece.
